Usage:

To create a template that will be used by the [#69-en,Data Bridge] or [#73-en,Link Unattached Multimedia] LTools to create Legacy events:

  1. In the Data Bridge Detail or Link Unattached Multimedia dialogs, press the Event Setup... button.
  2. Select the Event Type that you wish to attach to the individual/marriage.
  3. Fill out the other fields in the template as you would in Legacy. The various placeholders you can use are described below.
  4. If you are accessing this template from the Data Bridge Detail LTool, check the Always INSERT Data Bridge Events if you wish the [#69-en,Data Bridge] LTool to never attempt to UPDATE an existing event. More about this below.
  5. If you are accessing this template from the Link Unattached Multimedia LTool, check the Always Prompt for Event Info if you wish the [#73-en,Link Unattached Multimedia] LTool to always prompt you to enter Event Info. More about this below.
  6. Click the Save button.

Placeholders:

For the [#69-en,Data Bridge] LTool, you can use any of the following placeholders anywhere in your event...

{DataSource}

{RIN}

{Name}

{LegacyName}

{DataSourceName}

{BirthDate}

{BirthPlace}

{DeathDate}

{DeathPlace}

{Newline}

{AccessDate}

{OldNotes}

{Legacy...} - where '...' is the name of any field (sans spaces) on the Detail dialog that does not begin with a {. Values will be pulled from the 2nd column on the screen.

{DataSource...} - where '...' is the name of any field (sans spaces) on the Detail dialog that does not begin with a {. Values will be pulled from the 3rd column on the screen.

For the [#73-en,Link Unattached Multimedia] LTool, you can use any of the following placeholders anywhere in your event...

{RIN} (if individual)
{FirstName} (if individual)
{LastName} (if individual)
{FullName} (if individual)
{PrefHusbLastName} (if individual)
{MRIN} (if marriage)
{HusbFirstName} (if marriage)
{HusbLastName} (if marriage)
{HusbName} (if marriage)
{WifeFirstName} (if marriage)
{WifeLastName} (if marriage)
{WifeName} (if marriage)
{CoupleName} (if marriage)
{FileName}
{Newline}
{AccessDate}

NOTE: In V1.3.28.2, {Name} was replaced by {LegacyName} (the individual's full name constructed from the Legacy Value column), and {DataSourceName} (the individual's full name constructed from the Data Source Value column).

When, in the process of building the Legacy event, this LTool encounters one of these placeholders, the LTool will replace the placeholder with the actual value it represents. The values that get plugged into these placeholders are the values found in your Legacy database after this LTool has performed its updates (with the exception of {OldNotes}).

Most of the above are self-explanatory. If {OldNotes} is used, and the event is being updated, the LTool will place any notes from the old event record here. If the event is being inserted, {OldNotes} and any leading newline characters are ignored.

{AccessDate} will always be today's date.

In addition to the placeholders listed above, any field in curly braces ({...}) on the Data Bridge Detail dialog can also be used as a placeholder. For example, if one of the fields dragged/pasted from a Data Source was "Mother's Name" then any occurrence of {MothersName} in the event template will get replaced with the actual mother's name from the Data Source. If you specified a placeholder in the event template and the data that you drag/paste from the Data Source does not include that field, the placeholder will be ignored.

If you add a placeholder in the form {?...?}, you will be prompted to enter a value manually.

Fields:

uri/../images/bluepin.gif Event Type

Select the type of event (aka Master Event) you wish to update/insert.

uri/../images/bluepin.gif Description/Date/Place/Notes

Same as in Legacy, except placeholders (see above) may be entered in the various fields.

uri/../images/bluepin.gif Always INSERT Data Bridge Events

When adding events via the [#69-en,Data Bridge] LTool, the tool is programmed to first look to see if a Legacy event of that Event Type already exists for the individual. If it does, this LTool will perform an SQL UPDATE query, only updating the existing event's Notes field. All other fields (Description, Date, and Place) will be ignored. If the individual does not have an existing Legacy event of this Event Type, a new Legacy event will be inserted based on all the fields in the template. By checking the Always INSERT Data Bridge Events box, this LTool will always perform INSERTs of new Legacy events ... never UPDATEs.

Always Prompt for Event Info

When adding events via the [#73-en,Link Unattached Multimedia] LTool, a new Legacy event will be inserted based on all the fields in the template. By checking the Always Prompt for Event Info box, this LTool will prompt the user for each event about to be inserted.
